The Problem with Traditional Surface Cleaning Before & After Welding
Clean weld seams and contaminant-free surfaces are critical for welding quality, coating adhesion, and final product appearance. Yet traditional cleaning methods-chemical solvents, sandblasting, grinding, and wire brushing-are slow, labor-intensive, environmentally harmful, and often damage the base material. Chemical cleaning leaves hazardous waste. Sandblasting creates airborne dust and requires containment. Grinding removes base metal and leaves scratches. For fabricators producing to European quality standards, these methods are increasingly unacceptable.
Weld Oxidation & Discoloration
Post-weld oxidation and heat tint compromise corrosion resistance and visual quality, especially on stainless steel.
Surface Contamination
Oil, rust, paint, and oxide layers on parent material cause weld porosity and poor penetration.
Environmental & Safety Costs
Chemical solvents and abrasive blasting generate hazardous waste, pose health risks, and require expensive disposal.
Base Material Damage
Mechanical grinding removes base metal, thins the workpiece, and leaves surface scratches that concentrate stress.
Product Overview
This pulse laser cleaning machine uses high-energy, short-duration laser pulses to instantly vaporize contaminants from metal surfaces-without contact, without consumables, and without damaging the base material. A pulsed fiber laser source delivers precisely controlled energy to the surface, where contaminants (rust, paint, oil, oxidation, weld discoloration) absorb the laser energy and are ablated away while the underlying substrate remains untouched. The handheld cleaning gun provides full mobility for cleaning large workpieces, complex geometries, and localized areas that are inaccessible to mechanical methods. Available in 50W to 500W power levels, it serves applications from precision mold cleaning to heavy rust removal.

Core Features & Advantages
Non-Contact & Non-Damaging
Pulsed Laser Ablation Technology
Short-pulse (nanosecond) laser energy is absorbed by surface contaminants but reflected by the clean substrate beneath, vaporizing rust, paint, oil, and oxidation without abrading or heating the base material. Cleaning precision reaches ±0.01 mm-ideal for delicate surfaces, precision components, and thin-walled parts.
Zero Consumables
No Abrasives, No Chemicals, No Media
Laser cleaning requires no sandblasting media, chemical solvents, grinding wheels, or wire brushes. The only consumable is electricity. This eliminates media purchase costs, hazardous waste disposal fees, and the logistics of storing and transporting cleaning chemicals.
Handheld Mobility
Ergonomic Laser Cleaning Gun with F-Theta Lens
The lightweight handheld cleaning gun (approx. 1.8 kg) features an integrated F-theta focusing lens and galvanometer scanner that creates adjustable line, circle, or point scanning patterns. Operators can clean complex 3D geometries, inner surfaces, and overhead positions that fixed machines cannot reach. Built-in safety key switch prevents unauthorized use.
Precision Control
Adjustable Power, Frequency & Scanning Pattern
Touch screen interface allows precise adjustment of laser power (10–100%), pulse frequency (1–200 kHz), scanning width (10–150 mm), and scanning speed. Preset cleaning modes for common applications (light rust, heavy rust, paint removal, weld cleaning, pre-weld preparation) enable consistent results across operators and shifts.
Long Service Life
Pulsed Fiber Laser Source, 100,000+ Hours
The pulsed fiber laser source has an expected service life exceeding 100,000 hours with no maintenance requirements-no alignment, no mirror replacement, no gas refill. Air-cooled design (for models up to 200W) eliminates chiller requirements; water-cooled models (300W+) include an integrated chiller unit.

FAQ
What materials can the laser cleaning machine clean?
The machine effectively cleans rust, oxidation, paint, oil, grease, mold release agents, and weld discoloration from carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and titanium surfaces. It is also effective on stone, ceramic, and glass surfaces. The substrate material must have sufficient reflectivity at 1064 nm to avoid surface damage during cleaning.
Which power level should I choose?
For light surface contamination, mold cleaning, and delicate components: 50–100W. For general rust removal, weld cleaning, and pre-weld preparation: 200–300W. For heavy rust, thick paint layers, and large-area industrial cleaning: 500W. The higher the power, the faster the cleaning speed and the greater the depth of contaminant removal per pass.
Does laser cleaning damage the base metal?
When operated at appropriate parameters, no. The laser energy is absorbed by the contaminant layer (which has high absorption at 1064 nm) but largely reflected by the clean metal substrate beneath. The key is using the correct power, frequency, and scanning speed for each material and contaminant type. The touch screen includes preset modes that are factory-optimized for common applications.
Is laser cleaning safe for operators?
The machine is Class 4 laser equipment. Operators must wear the laser safety goggles provided (rated for 1064 nm, OD 6+). The handheld gun includes a safety interlock that prevents laser emission unless the trigger is depressed and the gun is oriented toward a surface. A fume extraction unit is recommended for indoor use to capture vaporized contaminants. Full safety documentation and operator training materials are provided.
Can this machine integrate with my existing laser welding or cutting workflow?
Yes. As Xinhong manufactures both laser cutting machines and laser welding systems, the laser cleaning machine is designed to complement these workflows. Common integration points include: pre-weld surface cleaning at the welding station, post-weld seam cleaning and oxidation removal, and pre-cutting surface preparation for improved cut quality on rusty or oily plate stock.
